What kind of equipment is needed for hydroponics

Hydroponics is the art of growing plants without natural soil. Only nutritious mixture and water, which provides plants with all necessary elements, are allowed to work. Naturally, among hydroponics various schemes and methods, as well as installations are widespread. Home installation will be a great help for any dacha owner or plant breeder of amateurs. It allows you to grow grain crops at any time of year, as well as does not require much effort. Moreover, you will be guaranteed a great harvest and intensive growth of plants. So, let’s take a closer look at the design of hydroponic systems, their characteristics and elements, such as hydroponic water pump .

Main types of hydroponic systems

It is not difficult to assemble a hydroponic installation by hand. The most important thing is to deal with the very principle of work and provide yourself with all the necessary hydroponic equipment for growing plants. Don’t forget about enough light for your plants. There are several types of systems that are often used at home:

  1. Tidal tidal system. It is necessary to immerse the roots of plants in a nutrient fluid, otherwise the roots must breathe to get the oxygen they need. One of the challenges of assembly is the need for a complex water supply system and automation.
  2. Capillary irrigation system. The roots are immersed in a thin layer of substrate, which must be carefully treated with a nutrient solution. Very convenient and practical scheme for home use.
  3. Drip irrigation system. The nutrient solution comes in small quantities to the roots, and all excess goes through the drain.

Assembling hydroponics at home

Let’s consider in more detail the device and equipment for home hydroponics. It can be made by hand in various variants, all depends on your needs and available space. Here you can also use different options and experiment a little bit. But for now, let’s look at the basics. A typical hydroponic installation will consist of the following components:

  1. A tank for the nutrient solution. This can be made by using a plastic canister or another container of 30-50 litres. The walls must be opaque. Otherwise, the water will bloom quickly and will be unsuitable for consumption. If the plastic is transparent, it is best to cover it with an opaque thick foil.
  2. Pots. They should be small, such as those sold in a flower shop. It is necessary to make holes in the bottom. Make sure they are below the height of the tank
  3. Substrate for the root system. You don’t have to buy it right away, you can use fine claydite, coconut fiber or mineral wool. Its main purpose is to hold the liquid to supply the plant solution.
  4. Aquarium air pump, for supplying oxygen to plants. It is important to buy a new one so that there are no foreign bacteria in the tubes and it is best to use silicone tubes for hydroponic water pump.
  5. Nutrient solution, salts and other components. You can buy ready-made complexes or concentrates.
  6. In addition to the components mentioned above, you will need sandpaper, a ruler, and a knife with a sharp blade. All this will allow you to assemble a reliable system that will provide your plants with everything they need. You can also use any hydroponic system length automatics to simplify your work with plants.

Installation collection

The assembly scheme is simple enough. In the plastic tank, round holes must be made in the diameter of the pots for the substrate. They must be completely immersed in a container, but not completely immersed, which means that the diameter must be calculated very accurately. Pump hoses should be routed to the side of your tank to saturate the water with oxygen. Lay the aquarium stones on the bottom so that the air bubbles are not so large.
